Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need a guitar for my first session?

No. Our teachers can provide you with one of our studio guitars for you first or even your first few sessions. However, it is in your best interest to purchase a guitar early into your sessions so that you may practice at home to better benefit your learning experience. The MUSICHALL has instruments for sale, or if you prefer, we are more than happy to provide you with a list of local retailers. The advanced knowledge and experience our instructors possess will assist you in making a wise purchase decision.

  • Do I need a piano at home to take piano lessons?

No. However, it would be ideal. In the event you do not have a piano, you are more than welcome to utilize an electric keyboard for practice purposes. You may rent or purchase an electric keyboard so long as it provides regular sized keys and a touch sensitive keyboard. Meaning, the touch of the key can either go from soft to loud depending on the amount of pressure you put on the key. This is not a necessity but strongly advised for your benefit.

  • How long does it take to learn an instrument?

It differs with each student due to the fact that each individual learns at their own pace. Additionally, the dedication and consistency the student maintains throughout their learning experience will play a heavy roll as well. The main key to learning your desired instrument is simple – regular practice, and a basic level of playing which can be accomplished in just a few short months. The majority of our students will maintain long-term lessons because they find it enjoyable and are determined to grow and improve their talents.

  • I don’t have any musical background or ability; can I still help my child practice?

Absolutely. Regardless of whether you have any musical experience or not, our instructors can advise you as to how to assist your child with practice. In fact, parents who involve themselves in their child’s lessons find it rewarding and that bond also helps the child in their learning experience. Many parents will occasionally sit in on their child’s lesson in order to gain knowledge of how their child should be practicing and holding the instrument.

  • What’s the right age to start an instrument?

Any age is appropriate to begin lessons. The progress of the student is simply their determination and level of practice.
We feel it is imperative for children to start an instrument at the right age. It is our experience that starting a child at too young of an age can create issues for that child, such as frustration and a sense of being overwhelmed which ultimately compels the child to want to end their lesions. Children who are older than the suggested starting age usually do extremely well. Please review the following guidelines we’ve found to be adequate in determining the earliest age in which your child should begin music lessons.

  • Why are private lessons the best option for learning an instrument?

Private lessons allow the student to go at their own pace which proves to be far more successful than the student learning an instrument in a group setting or in a school program. One on one lessons are ideal for the student who really wants to learn and improve their skills. In addition, our instructors customize their lesson plans to the student’s preferences, song choices and musical style. This allows the student to thoroughly enjoy their lessons. Our instructors have the dedication and focus to work on the student’s strengths and weaknesses which provides a superior and lucrative learning experience.

  • Why take lessons in a professional school environment?

The answer is straightforward – FOCUS. It is imperative that right from the start, the student must be focused on the lesson at hand and must not be distracted from outside sources, such as, TV, internet, sibling interruptions, video games, etc., all of which are a non-factor in a professional school environment. You have to remember that the sessions are only one-half hour to an hour in length per week, so the time frame you are learning in must be productive and uninterrupted. A professional school environment provides that for the student which produces better results. At our school, the lessons are not just a hobby, but a responsibility which is taken very seriously by our instructors and staff. We are here to provide a fun, responsible, and rewarding learning program for you and/or your child.
